Y-Type Strainer
The ET VALVE Y-Type Strainer is a straightforward but essential piece of mechanical filtration. Its job is simple: keep debris in the pipeline from reaching and damaging your pumps, control valves, actuators, and meters. The body is shaped like a “Y”, and inside it holds a rugged stainless steel mesh screen that catches things like rust, scale, pipe dope, and other solid particles floating in the flow. The internal passage is designed to be smooth, so the strainer doesn’t create a big pressure drop. And when it’s time to clean it out, you just remove the bolted or threaded blow‑off cover – you can flush or scrape the collected debris out easily, and you don’t even have to take the strainer off the pipe.

High Versatility and Flexible Installation
A real standout feature of the Y-strainer is how easily it fits into different piping layouts. Unlike T-strainers or basket types, which usually require horizontal runs, the Y-strainer works in both horizontal and vertical orientations – as long as the flow is downward. That kind of flexibility is a huge plus in tight industrial spaces where every inch counts. And it’s not just about orientation; the same basic design handles liquids, gases, or steam equally well, provided you choose materials that suit the actual pressure and temperature of your system.

Cost-Effective and Low-Maintenance Design
From an operational standpoint, Y-strainers offer a highly economical solution for fluid filtration. They have a relatively small footprint and require a lower initial investment compared to complex filtration systems. Maintenance is equally straightforward. Many Y-strainers feature a blow-off valve or plug connection at the cap. This allows operators to flush out accumulated debris using the system’s internal pressure without dismantling the strainer cap or interrupting the entire pipeline flow. This "clean-in-place" capability drastically reduces system downtime and labor costs.

Minimal Pressure Drop and High Durability
The internal cylindrical screen is set at an angle to the main flow, which is done specifically to keep fluid dynamics smooth. Even as the mesh starts picking up debris, the flow path stays open enough that pressure loss across the strainer remains very low. On top of that, these units are made from tough materials – cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel – so they hold up well under extreme pressures and sudden temperature changes. That rugged build gives them a long, trouble-free life even in aggressive environments.
